What to Expect on Meet Day
Here’s a simple step-by-step guide so swimmers and parents know exactly what to expect from arrival to the final race.
🦬 Before the Meet Starts
- Events are shared at practice the day before the meet
- Arrive 30 minutes before warm-ups (check the meet schedule)
- Find the team tent and set up your swimmer’s bag, towel, or blanket
- Check the heat sheet for last-minute changes
- Write Event, Heat, and Lane on your swimmer’s arm using a Sharpie
- Swimmers report to the coach for warm-ups with cap and goggles
- After warm ups, swimmers return to the team area, hydrate, use the restroom, and stay warm
- Meets typically start 10–15 minutes after warm ups end
🏊 During the Meet
- Listen for event numbers over the loudspeaker
- When called, swimmers report to the ready bench with cap and goggles
- Swimmers are walked to the correct lane line and swim their race
⭐ After Each Swim
- Parents cheer, celebrate, and encourage
- Swimmers return to the team area to rest, hydrate, and wait for their next event
📣 When All Events Are Complete
- Swimmers may leave only after checking with the coach
- Relays often happen at the end of the meet
- If your swimmer is listed for a relay, they are expected to stay
- Missing a relay impacts the entire team and may affect future relay participation
