Volunteer Descriptions
Below, roles are divided into those that require league training and those that do not. We hope this helps you choose the best fit for your schedule and comfort level.
๐ Certified Deck Positions (League Training Required)
These are officiating roles on deck and require league certification.

Stroke & Turn Judge*
Observe swimmers to ensure proper stroke and turn technique is followed according to league rules. -
Head Timer* (Home Meets)
Oversees timers and tracks the current event number on a flip chart for swimmers and spectators. -
Starter* (Home Meets)
Ensures fair and consistent starts by giving commands and starting each heat when swimmers are properly positioned. -
Head Referee*
A two-year certified official who oversees the meet, enforces league rules, resolves disputes, and may disqualify swimmers when necessary. -
Scorekeeper*
Enters swimmer times into the HY-TEK Meet Manager system as each heat is completed.
๐ฆฌ Buffalo Swimmer Support (No Training Required)
These roles work directly with swimmers and help guide them through each step of the meet.

Buffalo Herder (Ages 5โ6, 7โ8, 9โ10)
Supervise swimmers in a designated age group. Ensure names are written on backs, EHL is marked, sunscreen is applied, and swimmers are walked to the Ready Bench when it is their turn. -
Buffalo Herder Name Coordinator
Use a megaphone to call swimmer names for the Ready Bench. Works closely with Buffalo Herders and Bench to Line Coordinators. Must be comfortable speaking to a group. -
Bench to Line Coordinator
Organize swimmers from the Ready Bench to the lineup area. Ensure correct EHL order and coordinate with the Name Coordinator and Buffalo Herders. -
Lane Line Coordinators
Escort swimmers from the lineup to their assigned lanes. Confirm lane assignments using EHL markings and assist younger swimmers with finding their blocks. -
Lane Line Leaders
Supervise swimmers behind two starting blocks. Help swimmers stay organized and ready to swim, and direct them to the exit area after their race.
๐ Meet Operations (No Training Required)
These roles take place on deck and support race flow and accuracy.

Timers
Record official times for swimmers in an assigned lane. Coordinate with the Head Timer as needed. -
Time Sheet / DQ Slip Runner
Collect time sheets and disqualification slips from each lane after events and deliver them to the scorekeeper. -
Flex Volunteer
Fill open volunteer roles at meets and team events as needed. Report to the volunteer coordinator for assignments and be ready to jump in where help is needed.
๐งพ Hospitality (No Training Required)
These roles support meet logistics and organization.

Parking Attendant at Home Meets
Direct incoming traffic to designated parking areas and issue parking passes. -
Ribbons
Label and organize ribbons for distribution at the next practice.

Set-Up / Clean-Up
Assist with setting up or breaking down tents, tables, concessions, and other meet equipment. -
Concessions
Sell food and drinks during the meet.ย
